Personalized Learning for Your Unique Math Journey with an instructor who gets you!

Math can be a tool to build self-esteem and unlock doors of opportunity.
I am committed to building bridges between teachers, students, parents, and educational institutions and promoting a new educational focus that is inclusive, personalized, and engaging. I believe that by working together, we can create a brighter future for everyone.

When a student finally understands a math concept that they previously struggled with, I feel a sense of pride and fulfillment knowing that I played a small part in their journey.

Hey, I'm Laura, and I believe in the power of education to change lives.

My journey as a math teacher has been one of self-discovery, growth, and transformation.
Teaching math is not just a job for me; it's a passion that started when I was just a child in Spain. I loved helping my friends and younger students understand math concepts and seeing the joy on their faces when it all clicked. That's when I realized that I had a talent for teaching, and I knew I wanted to pursue it as a career.
With years of experience teaching at various universities and schools, while I was living in Chile, I honed my skills as a math tutor. However, it wasn't until I moved to Canada, and I started working with students from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds that I fully understood the need for a paradigm shift in education. I saw firsthand how the traditional one-size-fits-all approach was failing many students, and I knew I had to do something about it.
As a complement to 1:1 instruction, I created "DESDE TUS ZAPATOS" a podcast for teachers and parents, where I share my experiences and discuss the need for a change of perspective. I also founded "Civita Laurea," an educational platform that when released will use AI tools to personalize learning paths for students and allow teachers to focus on their unique styles and personal brands.
Teaching math is not just about helping students understand numbers and formulas;
it's about empowering them to reach their full potential and achieve their dreams.
Say goodbye to one-size-fits-all math education and hello to personalized learning with me today!

STEMentorAs
Stementoras is a virtual space both in video on YouTube and podcast format, where I invite women in the STEM and STEAM areas to discuss relevant topics of education in these fields, break myths, deepen in pedagogical practices, always from reliable sources combined with their own experiences, in order to encourage more girls and young women to be interested in science.
Our goal is to ensure that the decision to pursue a STEAM career is free from fears and preconceived misconceptions about opportunities in this field.
STEMentorAs, leading the way to a more inclusive STEAM future. Everyone can learn what they love, regardless of gender, sex, ethnicity, or age.
Our antidote to fear: passion and information.
-
What is your methodology? Each student is different, so session strategies are unique to the student and area of need. Our first sessions will always include a review of the course syllabus, class notes, exercises, previous exams, etc., to understand what is expected of the student in order to achieve the course objectives, how he/she feels, and the level of his/her previous knowledge. With this information, I propose a plan based on the student's initial objectives, the time he/she will spend in class and outside of class studying, and the time needed to have our sessions. During the following sessions, I adapt the plan based on the progress of each student, their strengths, and developing skills.
-
Do you give homework to your students? Not always. I only provide homework if the assignments from their courses are not enough to cover the skills and concepts they need to learn or if I consider it appropriate for the student to do extra work for some specific reason. More work is not always synonymous with better learning. There are times when students need repetition but other times, they need a few exercises that encompass several skills chained together, and sometimes they just need to unlock a misunderstood concept and with that, they themselves advance without the need for extra work.
-
Do you have extra materials for the courses?I have my own materials for some calculus, algebra, linear algebra, and statistics courses, but in general, I work with freely available materials on the internet, invent exercises on the fly in class, or rely on books. I can create or search for extra content when it is needed. In most cases, the materials that students bring from their courses are already good enough, they just need to understand them to take advantage of them.
-
In what age range do you teach?Ages 11 and up. While I have tutored students under 11 years of age, I found that for younger students, it is better that the extracurricular support is with a face-to-face tutor instead of a virtual one.
-
What courses do you teach?Mathematics from 6th grade until finishing high school. At the university level: Univariate and multivariate calculus, as well as algebra, linear algebra, analytic geometry (conics and the part of matter that intersects with linear algebra), and probability and statistics (descriptive, probability, and inference). I do not teach the more advanced/applied or specialized versions of these subjects, nor programming classes.
-
Do you work with students with special learning needs?I have worked with students with ADHD and other gifts. What I know I have learned from my experience over the years. If the student already has a diagnosis of their specific needs, I invite you to tell me so I can determine if I can help you or if we should look for a professional with another profile who can help you much better.
-
What is the payment system?Sessions can be purchased separately or in packages. Single Tutoring Session: The cost is 50 CAD per session. Tutoring Packages: These are packages for students who want a fixed weekly schedule. Prices vary depending on the number of hours per month. 4 hours per month (or 1h/week for 4 weeks): 200 CAD 8 hours per month (or 2h/week for 4 weeks): 388 CAD 12 hours per month (or 3h/week for 4 weeks): 570 CAD 3. Intensive packages: If you want to take an intensive package of hours, the prices are ad hoc with the number of hours following the pattern above. Request your personalized quote today (info@lauramath.com) All payments are made when booking, there is no refund, and classes can be rescheduled if they are canceled at least 24 hours before the class. Otherwise, the class is considered completed and fully paid. All class packages must be completed within a maximum period of one and a half months from the start of the first class. No more than two cancellations per package are allowed.
-
Do you offer group classes?Yes, I do! Group classes can have a maximum of 5 people. Discounts are available depending on the total amount of students. Email for more info.
-
Do you solve exams or assignments? No. Everything that is evaluated must be done by the student. My only job is to prepare the students to be ready for their course evaluations and assignments.
-
Which tools do you use for the tutoring sessions?I work online via Zoom videoconference, using Onenote for the class notes and Google Drive to share content and upload video recordings from the class (the recording is optional).
We would love to hear from you!
